Geisha
Geisha (or Gesha) is the most celebrated coffee variety in Panama and arguably the world. Originally from Ethiopia, it was brought to Central America in the 1950s. Panama Geisha is renowned for its intense floral aromatics, jasmine, bergamot, and tea-like cup, and commands the highest auction prices in coffee.

Producers growing Geisha

Finca Auromar
Roberto Brenes' farm on steep slopes above Volcán — a former head of the Panamanian stock exchange who farms his wife's family land. Roastmasters, whose buyer judges at Best of Panama, has bought Auromar's Geisha and Pacamara across multiple seasons; the 2025-26 Pacamara Natural was in stock as green coffee at $15.48/lb.

Iris Estate
Savage Coffees' estate behind its most process-forward Geisha lots — the extended natural carbonic maceration 'Enigma' and the yeast-inoculated 'Interstellar'.

La Huella Coffee
Panamanian farm brand whose Gesha and Catuai lots come from Cañas Verdes in Boquete at 1,500–1,600 masl, dried on African raised beds. Roasted and green coffee is sold through its own UK-facing online shop.

La Victoria Estate
Boquete estate whose Geisha lots — including anaerobic (ASD) and natural processed coffees — have been featured by US roaster Black & White Coffee Roasters, which attributes its Boutet Natural Gesha lot to La Victoria Estate. Lots rotate seasonally; recent lots were sold out at the roaster when checked.

Hacienda Don Julian
Boquete estate established in 1999, owned and led by Korean American producer Heakyung Kang Burneskis, who co-founded the farm with her late husband Dr. Richard D. Burneskis and has run it since 2004. US roaster Klatch Coffee sells the farm's natural Geisha in its Pearl Reserve line.

Longboard Specialty Coffee
ProfessionalMicro-producer of award-winning organic Geisha coffee farming three small plots in Boquete — Misty Mountain, Windy Ridge and Fennario. Longboard grows, harvests, processes and roasts by hand under a forest-first philosophy it calls 'Wildynamic'. Its first private Geisha auction set records, and a second private auction of fourteen Misty Mountain Geisha lots (plus two peaberry lots) is scheduled for October 2026.

Café Suarez
A Boquete family of coffee growers and rosters with more than 100 years of tradition — producer labeling dates the family business to 1900 in Alto Quiel, a prized sub-region above Boquete town. Café Suarez sells its own roasted coffee, including single-origin Geisha and a Geisha + Catuai blend, through its official online shop and Panamanian retailers.

Finca Los Cenizos
Family farm in Cerro Punta owned and led by Estela Pitti, a first-generation coffee producer who purchased the farm in 2008. Los Cenizos grows some of the highest-elevation Geisha in Panama and has produced Best of Panama auction lots since 2019. Its lots have been sold by international roasters including Sey Coffee (USA) and Archers Coffee (Hong Kong) in 2024–2025.
Los Lajones Estate
Producer Graciano Cruz's estate sits adjacent to Volcán Barú National Park, where he has pioneered anaerobic processing — two-stage anaerobic fermentation, on-farm pulping, water recycling, and slow drying on African beds — alongside a dedication to conservation. The farm has placed multiple times at Best of Panama, including 7th place for a washed Gesha in 2025, and its lots are sold by leading specialty roasters in Europe.
Finca El Pergamino
A family farm high in the Tierras Altas district of Chiriquí, owned and worked by producer Yaneth de Lucich on rich volcanic soil surrounded by dense forest. At Best of Panama 2026 its washed Geisha took 2nd place in the Geisha Washed category with 96.00 points — a quarter point behind the winner and ahead of Hacienda La Esmeralda — announcing El Pergamino as one of Panama's most exciting newer producers.
Finca La Mula
A small Geisha farm owned by Dutch-born coffee professional Willem Boot, located near the Boquete Valley. Its lots have been roasted and reviewed internationally — including by JBC Coffee Roasters via Coffee Review — and MAME Coffee has offered a Finca La Mula Geisha Natural Anaerobic in its subscription lineup.
Altieri Specialty Coffee
A family operation based in the Alto Quiel highlands above Boquete, on the flanks of Volcán Barú, growing Geisha, Typica, and Catuai. The Altieri family won the Varietals category at Best of Panama 2026 with 93.63 points — ahead of Hacienda La Esmeralda — and has placed in the competition multiple times since 2014. Coffee from their Mima Estate is roasted and sold by retailers in Panama and abroad.
Carmen Estate
A third-generation family estate in the Volcán valley operated by the Franceschi family, with Carlos Aguilera Franceschi as managing director. Growing at around 1,800 meters on volcanic soil under rainforest shade, Carmen Estate is one of Panama's most consistent competition producers: its washed Geisha took first place in its category at Best of Panama 2023 and sold for US$10,005 per kilogram at auction, and importer Sucafina lists its fully washed Caturra among its offerings.
Finca Lérida
Founded in 1917 by Norwegian engineer Tollef Bache Mönniche — who had helped design the Panama Canal's emergency gates — Finca Lérida is one of Panama's oldest coffee estates and today combines a 900-acre working farm with a boutique hotel. In 1929, Mönniche exported the first shipment of Panamanian coffee to Germany; the estate's original wet mill and his patented siphon for separating good beans from damaged ones are still in use. The farm took 1st place in Geisha Natural at Best of Panama 2026 with 95.63 points.
Finca Deborah
One of Panama's highest and most remote coffee farms, Finca Deborah grows shade-grown Geisha at 1,900+ meters in the mountains of Volcán, shrouded in dense cloud cover for most of the year. The estate describes its mission as cultivating, processing, and delivering only the highest quality coffee: cherries are hand-picked and only the ripest are processed. The farm is fully powered by a solar generation system that supplies the beneficio and the workers' quarters.
Janson Coffee Farm
Janson Coffee Farm is a family estate in Volcán, Chiriquí. Janson Farms began in 1926 when Swedish immigrant Carl Axel Janson settled in Volcán, and the family later formally founded Janson Coffee. The farm grows green-tip Geisha, Catuai, Caturra and Pacamara, combining updated technology with artisanal drying, and runs worker welfare programs including housing, a food and clothing cooperative, healthcare and educational funding. It operates a coffee shop and guided tours with views of Volcán Barú, and has competed repeatedly in Best of Panama.
Don Pachi Estate
Don Pachi Estate is a Boquete farm founded in 1873 and widely described as Panama's oldest coffee farm. Don Pachi Serracín is credited with bringing the Geisha variety to Panama from CATIE in Costa Rica in 1963, seeking rust-resistant varieties; his son Francisco is described as having detected its distinctive cup character in 2003. The estate grows one of Panama's widest variety ranges, from Typica and Bourbon to Geisha and Java, between 1,350 and 1,600 m. Roasted Don Pachi lots are sold in Panama through Café & Aroma.
Finca Sophia
ProfessionalFinca Sophia is an experimental farm founded in 2008 and planted with Geisha at extreme altitude — grown at 2,130 meters — under the stewardship of Willem Boot, David Pohl and Kelly Hartmann. The entire harvest is released each year as one whole-harvest auction offering, with pre-registration each June, alongside green-coffee inquiries taken through the farm's contact form. Discoveries include the Guayabita and Enigma varieties.
Ninety Plus
PremiumNinety Plus produces coffee on two estates on the slopes of Volcán Barú: Gesha Estates (acquired 2009; 200 hectares of reforested former cattle land planted with shade-grown gesha under forest canopy) and Barú Estates (acquired 2019; 270 hectares). Its named lots include Perci — credited as the first naturally processed gesha in Panama — alongside Juliette, Lycello, Sillvia, Tigre, Ruby, Carmo and Yuzo, sold roasted through its own store.
Hacienda La Esmeralda
PremiumHacienda La Esmeralda is the Boquete producer that put Panama Geisha on the world map: the variety's celebrated jasmine-and-stone-fruit character was discovered on its farms in 2004. The estate has since produced record-breaking microlots and has held its own annual online auction every year since 2007. Collections include Esmeralda Auction, Esmeralda Special (Geisha from above 1,950 m), Esmeralda Nano, Private Collection, Diamond Mountain (Catuai), and an exotic varietal range including SL-34, Laurina and Pacamara, plus cascara.
